When All-On-6 Implants May Be Your Best Option

When All-On-6 Implants May Be Your Best Option

Losing all or most of your teeth is devastating, physically and emotionally. Yet, that’s the case for about 36 million Americans. The good news is that All-on-6 implant dentures offer a life-changing remedy.

At Central Avenue Dental, our team uses advanced implant dentistry techniques to help patients at three New York locations: Valley Stream, New York, and the Tribeca and Midtown East neighborhoods of Manhattan in New York City.

We can restore your teeth, smile, and confidence using implants designed to look, feel, and function like your natural teeth.

Here’s how all-on-6 implants work.

Dental implants are an alternative to traditional dentures that use metal posts to attach artificial teeth to your jaw bone. Implants are often used to replace single teeth lost to decay, infection, or trauma, but they can also be used to secure an entire row (or arch) of teeth.

All-on-6 implants use a series of six carefully placed titanium posts implanted into your jaw bone. They’re similar to all-on-4 implants, except they use two extra implants to secure the denture.

Before placing the six posts, your Central Avenue Dentist evaluates your jaw bone, jaw structure, and bite balance to ensure that all-on-6 implants are the best option for your oral health. Then, they map out a treatment plan that may include two or more visits, depending on the approach they use and whether you need extractions before implant placement.

Benefits of all-on-6 implants

Dental implants don’t just restore the aesthetics and function of your teeth. They may also promote better jaw bone health and prevent future tooth loss by maintaining the jaw bone replacement cycle.

Bone replenishes itself regularly. Your jawbone depends on stimulation from teeth roots to keep replacing old bone with new tissue. When teeth are missing, the roots are gone too, which means your jaw bones can start to thin out.

Implants serve as artificial tooth roots, helping to maintain the normal bone replacement cycle for healthier jaws. Not only can they improve your oral health, but they can also prevent that ‘sunken in’ look caused by a thinning jawbone.

All-on-6 vs. all-on-4 implants

All-on-6 implants are typically suggested as an alternative to all-on-4 implants when the jaw structure or bite mechanics need a little more security for proper function and comfort. Because they use more posts than all-on-4.  All-on-6 implants provide additional bone stimulation that could provide more benefits for your jaws and your facial contours.

Our dentists have extensive experience in all types of dental implant surgery, including single implants, all-on-4 implants, and all-on-6 implants. Following an initial evaluation, your dentist will recommend the best treatment approach.

Dental implants look, feel, and function more like natural teeth, and they’re easier to care for too. To find out if they’re right for you, call the office closest to you or use our online tool to book your visit.
